Tour Overview Bahir Dar is the jumping-off point for visits to the spectacular scenic and historic attractions of Lake Tana and which the biggest lake in Ethiopia- Ethiopia's giant inland sea. It’s registered in UNESCO’s biosphere reserved areas list in May 2015. In their funerary texts, the Pharaohs referred to it as "Lake Karou of the Country of the Happy." In the middle Ages, churches sought refuge on the islands of Lake Tana and due in part to the difficult access are to this day rich in Ethiopian illuminated manuscripts, religious paintings and other treasures. Half Day Boat Tour Itinerary After breakfast our guide or representative will meet you at your hotel in Bahir Dar and then walk together to the harbor. From here the boat will take you to fishery mark the place where you can see various birds and along the way you will see Tankwa (a vessel boat made of syrups papyrus plant) with fishermen and continue to the outlet of the Blue Nile river to see hippopotamus and birds, soon after drive to Zeghe peninsula and visit 14th c Azwa Mariam monastery. From here you will experience forest hike between Azwa Mariam and Ura Kidane Mihiret for 2-30 minutes hike through coffee plantation and indigenous trees. Along the way you will have lunch break under the trees and coffee testing at one of locals house. After you visit Ura Kidane Mihiret monastery the boat will pick you up at the local port and drive you back to Bahir Dar.
