Airports & Airlines
There is currently no functioning national airline, but even when there was, it never got off the European Commission blacklist. Stick with international operators.
The only airport currently accepting commercial flights in the country is Asmara International Airport, though in theory Massawa is another possible option.
Departure tax is included in the price of a ticket.
For a number of years the only open land border crossings have been those between Eritrea and Sudan, and these are officially open only to citizens of these two countries.
It is sometimes possible to enter Eritrea by private boat at the port of Massawa; inquire directly with Eritrean consulates abroad for current information.
