The child-oriented Legoland theme park, 3 miles southwest of Windsor, is more about white-knuckle thrills than building Lego-brick castles, though its many rides, from submarines to roller coasters, do zoom past vast Lego-built models. Adults and children pay the same prices, while ‘Q-Bots’, enabling you to avoid long queues for popular rides, cost up to £80 extra per person.

Shuttle buses connect Legoland with Windsor’s Theatre Royal (return adult/child £5/2.50, 20 minutes, www.courtneybuses.com), from around 9.30am until 30 minutes after park closure.
