It's pretty well known that London is an expensive city (for both travelers and locals). So I put together this video list of free and cheap secret viewpoints of the city - honestly, these are better than the London Eye and The Shard: https://youtu.be/CqHm5yxBgyQ
Has anybody else been to these?
We don't have a firm itinerary for our road trip through England as yet but we are looking to go by ferry from Liverpool to Belfast some time around 8-12th of June. Is it necessary to book in advance or can you just show up on the day and get a ticket. If you can show up and get a ticket how much more expensive is it? Oh by the way we will be leaving the car in Liverpool so just passenger requirement only.
I've searched the forums and scoured the web, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus answer to which if England's famous college towns is the best to visit. So I'm going to throw the question to the esteemed and experienced Thorn Tree crowd - and hopefully answer the question once and for all - which is the better day trip, Oxford or Cambridge?
Rules of the contest:
-The trip will be from London, by train.
-No taking other trains or buses once in the town (taxis or other ride sharing vehicles…
Am organising a day out in London for myself and some friends on May 5th. We are all into sketching and art. We are travelling to Euston so are planning to take in a bit of Camden and most likely will get lunch there at one of the food stalls. Hopefully, if the weather is nice we can sit outside and sketch but we need some suggestions for when the weather is not so nice. Any nice coffee shops or bars with interesting views of London, for example? Any free/low cost art events happening…
I have been living in London for the last 6 years and I love discovering new things every day. I wrote a post on the top things to do to 'live like a local' :) If you are travelling to London - or if you are living here yourself! - it will hopefully give you new ideas! Restaurants, museums, entertainment... there must be something you will enjoy !
Have a look:
This is an experience of London. Please sign in to Word press and leave a comment so I know who you are! If you liked the story and whether you would like to meet for a coffee. As a fellow Lonely Planet Pathfinder. (If you are) It can be lonely in a new country when everyone is working!
My name is Chloe, I’m 22 years old, English and looking for a travel buddy! Recently been to New Zealand and caught the travel bug to do some more travelling! Looking to go over to SE Asia and Australia before I work in New Zealand for the year. Planning on travelling from September until November. Love all things outdoors and would love to share my travel experiences :)
I'm seeking knowing locals' most generous advice re options for each day below. If something better on the route's been missed, I'll consider a switch as advised. Additionally, we'll have both English Heritage and National Trust active memberships.
Please maintain that singular focus (with pretty villages/drives a top priority). Am I ok - beyond drive time issues - in wishing these three itinerary days currently reasonable, or in need of trim and how?
DAY ONE Breconshire to Devizes: early…
My wife and I will be traveling from the US to France for a week this summer, then spending a week in Serbia, then spending a week in southwest UK. We want to be able to use our mobile phone data (which are unlocked GSM devices) in at least France and the UK because we will be renting cars and need to be able to use our phones for navigation (in Serbia we will be staying with people and being carted around, so less important to have mobile phone service). I'm aware of the EU regulations that…
