The old Ship dates (at least in parts) back to the 1700s and has lashings of period charm, with hefty fireplaces and leaded glass windows (double room £80 to £120). Food is standard pub grub – steak pie, veggie chilli (mains £9.95 to £15.95).

On 23 Dec (Tom Bawcock's Eve), it bakes the traditional dish of 'stargazey pie', a fish pie with pilchards' heads left poking through the crust. It commemorates a local legend of Tom Bawcock, who supposedly set to sea during a storm to save the village from starvation.
