This award-winning Manchester micro-distillery cranks back the shutters a few times a week to let visitors behind the scenes with the master distiller. Its three-hour ‘Gin Experience’ starts with a potted history of Manchester and the city’s relationship with gin, throws in several gin cocktails and culminates in mixing botanicals to cook up your own 1L batch to take home.

The distillery lives under the railway arches north of Manchester Victoria station. If you don’t want to pay for the tour but still want to taste the booze you’ll find it stocked in bars around town, including Impossible’s gin palace.
