Grill in The West End

Temper doesn't do things by halves: this restaurant under a Soho street has a 6m-long fire pit running down the middle, and prides itself on being a 'whole meat barbecue', meaning all meat is butchered in-house and less is wasted. The menu is impossible to pin down, as it roves from tacos to meat-topped parathas (Indian flatbread) and Szechuan guacamole.

The tequila and mezcal list must be one of the most extensive in the city, and they're served in teensy traditional clay cups called copitas that hold just a few sips.
