Karl Marx used to tarry here for a well-earned pint after a hard day inventing communism in the British Museum's Reading Room; George Orwell also boozed here, as did Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and JB Priestley. A lovely traditional pub set around a long bar, it has friendly staff, period features and is popular with academics and students alike.

The pub on this site was originally called the Dog & Duck, changing its name after the museum opened.
