There's some lovely original tiling on the floor as you enter this fine old property on a quiet, leafy street in Earl’s Court, although most other period detailing has been overlaid. Most accommodation (186 beds) is in clean, airy dormitories of between four and 10 metal bunk beds. Common areas are spacious; showers and toilets are clean and staff helpful.

There’s a huge gravel garden out back strewn with tables, plus a good-sized, well-equipped kitchen, two redecorated lounges and a bright, modern cafe. Beyond dorm rooms, there are en-suite doubles and family rooms too. Check out the charming Youth Hostels Association declaration from bygone days on the wall out front.
