London can be an expensive city, but staying in budget accommodation needn’t mean putting up with low-quality lodgings. Here, we sum up some of our favourites across the city. Hostels generally offer the lowest prices – their mainstay is dorm beds, but they often have decent private rooms too. We’ve also covered a handful of great hotels and B&Bs that won’t break the bank. Demand can outstrip supply – especially at the bottom end of the market – so book ahead, particularly during holiday periods and in summer. London has numerous chain hotels too, but we’ve focussed on places with more character, from bay-windowed hostels in Chelsea to colourful Greenwich hideaways.
