A visit to Leicester isn't complete without singeing your taste buds on a curry along the Golden Mile. Self-caterers should head to the Leicester Market.
The Golden Mile
Lined with sari stores, jewellery emporiums and curry houses, Belgrave Rd – aka the Golden Mile – is an essential stop for authentic Indian vegetarian food; try the excellent Bobby's. Shops along the strip sell mithai (Indian sweets), which involve sugary combinations of nuts, fruit and milk curds.
Belgrave Rd is about 1 mile northeast of Leicester's city centre – follow Belgrave Gate and cross Burleys Flyover, or take bus 22, 25 or 26 (£1.60, seven minutes, every five minutes) from St Margaret's bus station.
