The mini-mountain of Catbells (451m) packs a punch considering its modest height. The classic path starts near the Hawse End jetty on Derwentwater's west side, from where the path rises steeply for around 1.5 miles to the summit, with sweeping views over Skiddaw, the Newlands Valley and Borrowdale. The best way to the jetty is aboard the Keswick Launch.

Wainwright called Catbells 'one of the great favourites, a family fell where grandmothers and infants can climb the heights together'. That's certainly true, but the family will still need to be fit.
