This attractive, half-timbered country pub, a mile north of White Horse Hill, has six surprisingly smart modern rooms, with splashes of colour, in its annexe. The 500-year-old pub itself serves decent contemporary cuisine (mains £14 to £20), including fresh fish and vegetarian options like cashew nut curry and Mediterranean vegetable tagine. On Sunday evenings, only pizza is available.
