This grand red-brick edifice (once Exeter's eye hospital) is now part of the plush Hotel du Vin chain. Quietly stylish rooms incorporate aspects of the building's Victorian architecture (bay windows, cornicing, wood floors) into their palette of muted colours, offbeat wallpapers and Scandi-style sofas. There's a stylish octagon-shaped restaurant, an excellent bar and a sleek spa.
An impressive building with a fitness centre and an outdoor pool open all year round, Hotel du Vin Exeter boasts free WiFi, a bar and 24-hour front desk. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom with free toiletries and a monsoon shower, and some have a bath. Modern touches include a flat-screen TV, a Nespresso coffee machine, and many rooms have views over the Haldon Hills. The library has over 750 books while the spa offers a selection of treatments. For some exercise, guests can use the fitness centre or the pool. The lounge, where snacks are available, overlooks the walled gardens that surround the hotel. The restaurant boasts a theatre-style kitchen and British and traditional dishes, and the bar specialises in cocktails. In the heart of Exeter, a 15-minute walk from Exeter Central Rail Station, Hotel du Vin Exeter is just 20 minutes’ drive from Exmouth.
Please note that the hotel has limited car parking spaces. Spaces are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
