With its deer antlers, hunting prints and big wood-burning stove, Woods is Exmoor to its core. No surprise then to find menus full of full-bodied flavours: expect venison confit, belly pork with black pudding, and wild mushrooms with truffle and white wine.

The bar menu (£10 to £12, served between 6pm and 9.30pm) is simpler stuff – think steak, omelette Arnold Bennett and lamb rogan josh.
