Built in the 1900s, the GWR once linked Cheltenham and Birmingham via Stratford-upon-Avon. It was closed in 1976, but keen volunteers are in the (slow) process of restoring it to its former glory. Classic steam trains now trundle along 14 miles of revitalised railway between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway, passing through Winchcombe, Toddington and some typically gorgeous Cotswolds landscapes.

There are plenty of kid-friendly activities on offer, including the chance to play at being a signalman.
