Take a 4-Day adventure deep into the Ecuadorian Amazon Jungle in Tapir Lodge. This Comfort Class jungle lodge works in collaboration with the family members of the Siona community in Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. Built under sustainable and responsible tourism premises, Tapir holds an ecofriendly structure working alongside with the local community. Make daily excursions into the jungle in a 5-day program while staying at rooms built on two towers of 15 meters high each one, experience and feel nature and the jungle wilderness closer.
DAY 1: Pick-up at Lago Agrios Airport (Sucumbios Province). After a 2 ½ - 3 hour drive reach “El Puente” (The Bridge) to meet your tour guide. The trip will continue via motorized canoe. In this narrow river you will be able to admire some of the wide variety of flora and fauna breeding in Cuyabeno Reserve. After 2 ½ hour navigation, arrive around dusk to Tapir Lodge (05:00-06:00 PM). After dinner the guide will inform our guest of the next day’s activities. Overnight spent at Tapir.
DAY 2: After breakfast, try on your rubber boots to depart at 08:30 AM via them Quilla canoe (motorized canoe or the paddled). You will navigate upstream “Laguna Grande” observing the surrounding flora and fauna for about 45 min towards Igap inundated forest. The flora of this area is unique: ancient macrolobium trees growing in water. Plant life includes Bromeliads, Orchids, Ferns and Cacti. A 3 ½ hours trek on Palma Roja “Red Palm” will follow for your first encounter with primary rainforest, home to Tapirs, Capibaras, Jaguars, Agoutis and other native species and a wide variety of ancient trees, and many species of birds and monkeys. Follwoing lunch, take a 1 ½ hour rest to try Piranha fishing or just relax in our hammocks. At 05:00 PM, take the canoe to “Laguna Grande” to navigate and swim. Also, catch sight of birds and other native animals. A nighttime navigation will be followed by dinner in the lode. Depending on the weather conditions, take a quick night trek around the lodge. Overnight spent at Tapir.
DAY 3: Depending on the weather conditions, at about 06:00 AM head out on a bird watching excursion to catch sight of some of the 500 species inhabiting Cuyabeno. Breakfast will be served at 07:30 AM. Travel downstream in a 2 hour Canoe ride searching for Morphos (Giant Blue Butterfly), Toucans, Macaws and Monkeys. Pass the village of Puerto Bolivar, home to Siona (Cofan ethnic group) community to meet the local Shaman. The first trail involves a trek into the rainforest, home to the tiny Ecuadorian Poison Frog. Along the river bank, observe the marvelous ancient Kapok trees, at least 800 years old. Enjoy a tasty box lunch and relax. Sit and learn as the shaman imparts some of the knowledge on the rainforest and the use of medicinal plants. You can also participate in a 40 minutes “healing” ceremony. About 03:00 PM navigate back to Puerto Bolivar and take part in the preparation of Cassava (Yuca) Bread with a local Siona family. Navigate back to Tapir arriving just before dusk. Overnight spent at Tapir.
DAY 4: After breakfast we will coordinate and schedule your departure from Tapir. Departure time is generally between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM depending on flight times, river and road conditions as well as the guide’s decision. Drive back to Lago Agrio. Arrive to airport.
