CIFA buses go to the Peruvian border at Huaquillas ($2, 1½ hours) several times a day, via the towns of Santa Rosa and Arenillas. CIFA buses also go to Guayaquil ($5, three hours).
Panamericana has regular daily buses to Quito (around $15, 11 hours). It also has buses to Santo Domingo (around $8, eight hours) and an evening bus to Tulcán.
Passenger boats (return $4, around 30 minutes) depart on the hour Jambelí island from here. Cash only. There's an ATM opposite the dock.
Piñas Interprovincial leaves regularly from early morning to around 7pm for Piñas ($2.75, two hours) and Zaruma ($3.75, 2½ hours).
Rutas Orenses has comfortable air-conditioned buses (sometimes with wi-fi) and frequent services to Guayaquil and Huaquillas.
Transportes T.A.C leaves regularly from early morning to around 7pm for Piñas ($3, two hours) and Zaruma ($3.50, 2½ hours).
Flights to Quito (from $27, 1¼ hours) with Tame depart from Santa Rosa Airport, 40 minutes south of Machala.
Service to several national destinations as well as Caracas, Venezuela and two destinations in Peru.
Transportes Cooperativa Loja goes to Loja ($7, takes five hours at night, six during the day).
Has several departures daily to Guayaquil ($10, 3 hours) and Cuenca ($12, 3 hours).
