Cayambe is located in Pichincha Province, just 70 km north of Quito, this town is well known because of the incredible production of roses for exportation, surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers and especially the equator line, Cayambe is an important tourist destination in Ecuador. The departure is at 08h00, so we will take the Panamerican highway, which goes through a spectacular mountain scenery allowing us to enjoy spectacular views of people and communities. Our first stop will be at the Quitsato´s sun dial to learn more about the equator line and its influence on the world; there is also a good chance to see Cayambe, the third highest snow-capped volcano in the country. Before going to Otavalo, we will visit a beautiful rose farm, to learn everything about the process of growing, harvesting and exporting roses. We will continue our journey in order to arrive to the Otavalo market or Plaza de Ponchos that is full of indigenous handicrafts. After lunch we will visit the Cotacachi village, known as the “music capital of Ecuador”, rich in the production of fine leather works, which are displayed and sold in small shops located in the center of the city. We will finish around 17h30.
