This beautiful Church is among the best-known churches in Quito because of its large central nave, which is profusely decorated with gold leaf, gilded plaster and wood carvings. Inspired by two Roman Jesuit churches. La Compañía is one of the most significant works of Spanish Baroque architecture in South America. It is Quito's most ornate church and (according to some observers) the country's most beautiful. It is not only popular by her amazing beauty, it also has a lot of history behind her. Consider this: Mariana de Jesus, the same Saint, who donated her house to be turned into a convent, is buried in the main altar of this church.Spanish Baroque architects profusely decorated the church's interior with gilded ceilings and exterior with intricate stone carvings, making it recognized today as the most awe-inspiring and beautiful church in Quito and even in Ecuador. However, Ecuadoreans were really close to losing this beauty, when the church's interior got fire. Since then, experts in repairing this type of monuments have been trying to replicate exactly how it used to look. Nevertheless, new gold is different than old gold and it is easy now to see and differentiate what areas where mostly affected. Take a while to study the impressive detail of the central nave and save time to visit the main altar and religious paintings.Attraction Instructions When you arrive to the church, ask the security guard to open the door for you, then present your ticket at the main entrance & ticket booth.
