Today's newspaper carries a report that YF vaccination certificates will be checked for foreign travellers at border crossings
http://www.paginasiete.bo/sociedad/2017/2/13/salud-caso-fiebre-amarilla-origino-zona-selvatica-127139.html
This follows a case in the lowland area of northern La Paz. Spanish speakers may be struck, as I was, by the emphasis on a foreign traveller being affected and there being no local cases.
It might be prudent to assume that Bolivian border officials will be more…

Solo Female Lago Agrio & Puerto Lopez

My 40 year old American girlfriend is traveling alone for the first time. She has traveled to India and Asia with me in the past and has a good head on her shoulders. I just want to see what the forum has to say about her going to Lago Agrio for a night before going to the Cuyabeno and 5 days in Puerto Lopez. The Exclusion Zone warning gives me some worry, but I also know from experience that those can be overblown...or not sometimes.

No transport available in Argentina on Monday at all: flights, buses, taxis, trains all shut down at 12.01 am until midnight Monday. Banks will aslo be shut down, so expect that the ATMs this weekend to be non-functional or out of money until Tuesday. In Buenos Aires, the streets into and around the city will be cut by union barricades. Expect the overnight buses from Sunday afternoon on not to be operating. Chaos, so do not plan anything that does not involve walking or bicycling. https://www.l

Many thanks.

Hi, me and my girlfriend are thinking of doing 1-day round trip hike to Salkantay pass from Soraypampa, in the first week of July.
We are thinking of hiring a taxi to Soraypampa from Cusco and get there early morning, and start the hike around 8am. Then, slowly make our way up to Salkantay pass, reach there between 12-2pm, and come down back to the taxi at Soraypampa by evening.

This does not seem to be a long hike. 6+ km? And 1000m elevation gain? We understand this is at high altitude and can…

Can anyone recommend a great tour group to use for Salkantay trek out of Cuzco in July? Any other tips regarding this trip?

I'd also love recs for a tour group in the Amazon jungle departing out of Puerto Maldonado.

Thank you!
