Orientation

When the highway hits town it splits into two one-way streets – the westbound street is Calle Independencia and the eastbound is Calle 16 de Agosto. A large white arch modeled on Paris' Arc de Triomphe stands dramatically at the eastern entrance to the city. At the western end of town is San Juan’s large plaza, with a pretty cream-colored church on one side and a school of fine arts on the other.
