Tucked in the hills a few kilometers from San José de las Matas, this sprawling, riverfront aquatic compound is a huge draw for Dominican families. The massive property offers two sleeping options: Hotel Rio Lindo's rooms are affordable and decent, overlooking the water, and Villas Macadamias' colonial-style rental homes are suitable for larger groups or families.
The main draws here are the swimming areas, which include a natural river and an elaborate system of pools. An associated restaurant serves Dominican food from 9:30am to 6pm, including decent mofongo (mashed plantains with pork rinds) and sandwiches. The place seems entirely wholesome, with one odd exception: the pink, diamond-studded headboards in Hotel Rio Lindo look like they're straight from a '70s adult film.
