A gold budget star goes to this six-room hilltop guesthouse. Rooms are bare bones (but clean!) and there's a nice communal kitchen, but the real highlight – and the reward for climbing the street from the malecón (waterfront path) and then a steep staircase – is the view from the hammock-strewn patio. The good-soul owner, Noelia, looks after guests with motherly care.
She even washed a guest's jeans back to life after they lost a particularly inky battle with an exploded florescent highlighter pen.
