Shillingford Estate near Mero has been distilling premium rum from pure sugarcane juice for more than half a century. During tours of the compound you’ll learn that the company grows its own sugar and still uses a traditional water-powered mill to crush the cane, a process as authentic and old school as it gets.

Be sure to sample the estate’s four types of rum: the sugarcane-based white rum, the dark rum, the spicy Bois Bandé rum (which locals call ‘natural Viagra’) as well as the sweet molasses-based Prime Star.
