Looking for a quick Euro-break to a real winter wonderland? Lonely Planet Magazine suggests twirling under the lights at Copenhagen's Tivoli.
Thanks to author Hans Christian Andersen, Copenhagen is the world capital of fairytales. And during the winter months in particular, the city sparkles with otherworldly magic.
The Tivoli Gardens form an enchanting city within a city, filled with fairground rides, street markets and firework displays. Tivoli is closed for most of the winter, but at the end of November it opens its doors for a month to celebrate the festive season. Some 7000 metres of fairy lights are hung and there are forests of Christmas trees, market stalls and a series of concerts, including a hip-hop version of The Nutcracker.
