Kotva Department Store

Department Store

in Staré Město

Built in the '70s by a bunch of Swedes (many of whom happily exported Czech wives when the job was done), this five-storey department store was one of the finest examples of socialist construction. A few years ago, the then-dilapidated building was heavily renovated and today is home to numerous fashion stores, cafes, a fitness centre and a rooftop restaurant.

Despite modernisation, it still has a 20th-century-department-store feel, with lots of empty spaces and sections selling the essentials of everyday Czech life, such as copious amounts of school stationery, cheap crystal and replacement zips.
