Positioned under the mountains at the foot of the Split peninsula, these neighbouring settlements mark the beginning of long chain of beach towns heading southeast along the coast. They sit on opposite sides of a sheltered bay, divided by the Žrnovnica River.
Stobreč is the prettier of the two, with a marina and partly sandy beach. It started life in the 3rd century BC as the Greek town of Epetion. Podstrana has the disadvantage of the coastal highway passing right through it, but it has some nice beaches.
