There’s a blandness to many of Makarska’s hotels, most of which are geared to package tourism. Be prepared to be underwhelmed, though comfortable beds and good views can be expected in the more upmarket spots. Private accommodation is the best bet for budget lodging.


There are some excellent restaurants and taverns scattered liberally around Makarska, including in some unlikely backstreets. If you have a car, there are also a couple of great options in the hills above the village of Tučepi to the southeast.

Drinking & Nightlife

Cafe-bars line the beach and harbour area, and there are interesting hot spots near the main square. In summer the action moves to the beach, with DJs cranking up the beats in clubs located in caves and under the stars.
