You won't have to go far to find a konoba (tavern) specialising in Dalmatian dishes, particularly seafood. Makarska and Brela have some good options, as does the small settlement of Tučepi.
Worth a Trip: Tasty Tučepi
If you have a car, there are a couple of great options in the hills above the village of Tučepi, southeast of Makarska.
Jeny Restaurant In this fine-dining restaurant on the slopes of Biokovo mountain, the culinary focus is Mediterranean with a French touch. There's no a la carte option, only a seven-course degustation, which can be tailored for vegetarians or those with allergies (let them know when you book). The breathtaking riviera views make up for the passable decor.
Konoba Ranč This rustic spot, away from the tourist buzz, is worth the 10-minute drive from Makarska; follow the sign leading up from the highway. Dine on log chairs under olive trees, feasting on grilled meat and fish, a preordered peka (meat or seafood cooked beneath a domed baking lid), house wine and sporadic klapa performances.
