Elaphiti island tour - 8hrAfter complimentary pickup from your accommodation you will embark 7m 200HP boat and accompanied with beautiful panorama set sail along the Adriatic coast.The Elaphiti Islands or the Elaphites is a small archipelago picturesque string of islands in the vicinity of Dubrovnik consisting of several islands stretching northwest of Dubrovnik, in the Adriatic sea.Covered by Mediterranean vegetation of the fragrant myrtle, laurel, thyme and rosemary Elaphites are basking in the peaceful shadows of tall pine trees. The name comes from the Ancient Greek word for deer (elaphos), which used to inhabit the islands in large numbers.The islands on our quest are the three main inhabited where you will witness many examples of the Dalmatian architecture some dating from Early Christian ages.Sipan – The farthest and largest island and population of 436 inhabitants. It also has two settlements, Šipanska Luka and Suđurađ where you will see a Renaissance shipyard Skocibuha dating from the time of Dubrovnik Republic.Sipan is famous for its wine and for its delightfully laid-back ambiance composed of olive and fig trees, vineyards and citrus groves. During the 15th century it was a summer getaway for the noble Dubrovnik families.The narrow sea channel Harpoti, connecting Luka Sipanska with the open sea, where battle between the armies of Caesar and Pompey took place in 47 B. C.Lopud – Second in size and best known for its sandy beaches, it is located between Šipan and Koločep islands.The main settlement is the town Lopud, situated in a beautiful, calm bay. In its prime it boasted with two monasteries, 30 churches and a number of noble palaces of which some remains can be seen today.Stroll around cypress, lemon, orange, pine and palm trees or take a walk in a pine shades on a path that leads to the famous sandy beach Šunj.Koločep or Kalamota – It is the closest island to Dubrovnik, located 3 miles from the Dubrovnik harbor.In the times of the Republic of Ragusa, Koločep was an important shipbuilding site. Two members of Christopher Columbus’ crew on the Santa Maria were sailors from the island.Archaeological remains of ancient European conquerors have been found on the island from the ancient times of Greece and Rome to the time of Napoleon.The island has seven pre-Romanesque churches dating back to the times of Croatian kings, from the 9th to the 11th century.In the 15th century many sacral buildings and summer manors were built on the island. However, many of the fabulous buildings of the past are now only ruins.After a nice day of island hopping sun basking, snorkeling and swimming we will set sail back to Dubrovnik and back to your hotel.
