Arriving in Destination
International flights arrive at Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría in nearby Alajuela.
An official, metered taxi from the airport to downtown San José costs around US$30. Plan on spending extra for wait time during periods of heavy traffic.
Interbus runs shuttles between the airport and San José hotels (adult/child under 12 US$15/7).
Even cheaper are the public buses (US$1.10) operated by Tuasa and Station Wagon, which pick up passengers at a stop on the main road in front of the airport. On the return trip, board at the Tuasa or Station Wagon terminal in downtown San José. Hotels can also arrange for private airport pick-up.
From downtown, the drive to the airport can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour (more if you take the bus).
