Day 1: Day 1 San José There are no planned activities until an evening welcome meeting. Included Activities: Arrival Day and Welcome Meeting
Day 2: Day 2 San José/Montezuma (1D) Depart early from San José travel to Montezuma, a small village located on the Pacific coast. Spend the next five days working alongside local and international volunteers to help protect endangered sea turtles. Transport: Take a taxi to the bus station before boarding the bus to Puntarenas. Day 3: Days 3-7 Montezuma If you're working on the turtle projects, most of the activities happen between 21:00 and 07:00, depending on the tides. With free days, check out some optional activities in the area or see what the CEO has organized for the group. Included Activities: The Montezuma Sea Turtle Project Volunteering
Day 4: Day 8 Montezuma/Monteverde (1B) Travel to the misty mountain air of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Spend two days exploring Monteverde and the Forest Reserve, truly a nature lover's paradise. If you're there at the right time of year, you may be lucky enough to see the Resplendent Quetzal, one of the most beautiful and elusive birds in the world. Enjoy an included 'El Trapiche Tour' to learn more about Costa Rican culture, including sugar cane processing, coffee production and other aspects of local agriculture. This hands-on experience will provide a better understanding of Costa Rica. Included Activities: El Trapiche Tour Transport: Transfer from the sea turtle conservation project back to the ferry. Day 5: Day 9 Monteverde Check out the birds and forest on a guided tour of Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve with free time to explore the area. Additional Notes: If you booked the Adrenaline Theme Pack, you will have a bird’s-eye view of the rainforest canopy as you soar through the trees on a Tarzan swing, a giant rappel and a 450-foot-high zipline. Day 6: Day 10 Monteverde Enjoy more free time in Monteverde. Try a canopy or zipline tour. Looking for a slower-paced activity? Visit a butterfly garden.
Day 7: Day 11 Monteverde/La Fortuna Travel by bus and boat to La Fortuna, located at base of the Arenal Volcano. Opt for a night hike around the base of the volcano accompanied by a soundtrack of monkeys. Hike the area’s nature trails, swim in chilly La Fortuna waterfall or join a canopy tour and catch a bird’s eye view of the forest greenery. Day 8: Days 12-13 La Fortuna Optional activities here include full-day whitewater rafting on the Peñas Blancas or Balsa Rivers, mountain biking, caving, horseback riding, or a tour of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. Like much of Costa Rica, the area is a birders’ paradise, with over 600 species as permanent residents. Finally, after a long day of exploring, take a relaxing soak in lush cascading hot springs. Soak in one of the natural thermal baths and rivers under the shade of the surrounding canopy. Additional Notes: If you booked the Adrenaline Theme Pack, you will have an action-packed day with both canyoneering and an option of your choice. Canyoneering is approximately 2.5 hrs long, with four waterfall repels through the lush rainforests around Costa Rica’s Arenal Volcano. For the second option, you can choose ONE of the following: Stand-up paddle (2 hours), half-day hike (3 hours), venado cave excursion (2 hours) or kayaking (2 hours).
Day 9: Day 14 La Fortuna/San José Return to San José for some last minute shopping and a final night on the town. Transport: Private Van with Wi-fi (3.50-5.00 hours, 195km)
Day 10: Day 15 San José Depart at any time.
