Getting Around

Having your own vehicle makes it so much easier to get around this sprawling area. Certainly, you will want to rent a car if you are staying in lodgings that are far outside of town. That said, Monteverde attracts huge number of budget travelers who do not have wheels but still want to experience all the adventures that the cloud forest has to offer; as a result of the demand for transportation, tour operators often offer hotel pickups. Activities such as night and canopy tours universally provide this service free of charge, which makes it feasible to stay here for a few days without a vehicle.

There’s a public bus that runs between Santa Elena and Monteverde, all the way to the reserve entrance; it makes the half-hour trip four times a day.
