They were first discovered by the Guatusos aborigines, who have lived in this region for many years. The caverns are located about 3 km east of the town of Venado and 45 minutes from La Fortuna. For many years the Venado Caverns were under the sea and later emerged due to plate tectonic movement. Its tunnels and chambers are formed by limestone and decorated with stalactites, stalagmites and coral remains. The duration of the tour inside the caverns is 1.5 hours. During this time we will travel through narrow passages that give way to larger chambers that house marine fossils, bats, spiders and crickets. It is ideal for those who have an adventurous spirit since we will definitely get muddy walking and crawling through 4 caves that are extremely narrow; we will also see a river that crosses the caverns along with a waterfall.
