Getting There & Away
Arriving at Tierradentro, most buses will drop you at El Crucero de San Andrés, from where it's a 25-minute walk uphill to the Tierradentro museums and another 25-minute walk to San Andrés. Very irregular colectivos (COP$1500) make the trip. Moto-taxis are hard to find but the trip costs COP$3500 if you get lucky.
A direct bus from Popayán (COP$26,000, four hours) to San Andrés de Pisimbalá departs at 10:30am and passes in front of the museums, making the return journey at 6am. Alternatively, take a bus from Popayán to Inzá (departures at 5:30am, 8:30am, 10:30am, 1pm and 3pm) and get off at El Crucero de San Andrés. There are return buses to Popayán (typically at 8am, 1pm and 4pm). Timetables are subject to change due to the poor road conditions – landslides and breakdowns are not unheard of so taking the last bus is not recommended.
Buses and pickups typically leave San Andrés de Pisimbalá at 6am, 7am, 8am, 11:30am and 3pm for La Plata (COP$13,000, 2½ hours), where you can pick up connections to Bogotá, Neiva for the Desierto de la Tatacoa and Pitalito for San Agustín. Reserve a place in advance at the orange house in front of La Portada.
From San Augustín you can take the 6am Bogotá bus, get off in Garzón (two hours), transfer to a La Plata bus (arriving there around 10:30am), then take the 10:30am bus to San Andrés de Pisimbalá (2½ hours). To get to San Agustín around 1pm, take the 6am bus from San Andrés de Pisimbalá.
