Welcome to Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy

Once off-limits because of the security situation, the park is now safe to visit, but access can still be complicated. In 2013, the main attraction, the Güicán–El Cocuy Circuit Trek, was closed to visitors indefinitely and in 2016 the park was closed completely while the government negotiated with local indigenous communities. It was reopened in early 2017 but with even more restrictions. It's no longer possible to touch any of the glaciers, making climbing the peaks impossible, and overnight stays are no longer permitted. Check ahead to see if the situation has changed by the time you visit.
