This high-end resort 5km from Manizales consists of three large thermal pools surrounded by impressive mountain peaks. The pools are set among breezy wooden shelters and there's a cafe serving Colombian standards and booze. Admission from Tuesday to Thursday is half-price. The downside – during peak periods you'll share them with hordes of visitors. From Manizales take the bus marked 'Gallinazo' (COP$2000).

The on-site hotel has rooms ranging from generic hotel-type offerings to luxurious cottages with wooden ceilings, open fireplaces and private thermal spas (single/double rooms including breakfast cost from COP$231,000/302,000).

It is a little too built-up to be a full-on nature experience, but it's still a fine relaxing day away from the city.
