When to Go

  • Wǔtái Shān is at high altitude and powerful blizzards can sweep in as late as May and as early as September; check ahead to ensure the roads are passable.
  • Winters are freezing with snow; summer months are the most pleasant, but always pack a jacket, as well as suitable shoes or boots for rain, as temperatures fall at night. If you are climbing up the peaks to see the sunrise, warm coats can be hired.
  • Avoid the holiday periods (first week of May in particular) and high-season weekends.
