Seriously though, these two weeks of the country's big-ticket highlights (as well as some smaller, more personal ones) will have you missing this country for years to come. From massive and historical Beijing (hello Forbidden City!), central Xi'an (home of the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors), glittering Shanghai, pastorally picturesque Yangshuo, and eventually to the world-in-itself gobsmacking city of Hong Kong, this is your (super affordable) opportunity to get here with a whole group of new friends.

Itinerary

Day 1 Beijing Arrive at any time. Included Activities: Arrival Day and Welcome Meeting
Day 2 Beijing The Chinese capital, Beijing, is one of the world's most impressive and vibrant cities. Spend a day at the Great Wall, a monumental feat of engineering intended to protect China from the northern barbarians. Included Activities: Great Wall Mutianyu Visit
Day 3 Beijing/Xi'an Enjoy free time in Beijing before an overnight train to Xi'an. Additional Notes: Train is our main mode of transport in China and it's a great way to travel. Transport: Basic overnight train (beds) (12.00-15.00 hours)
Day 4 Xi'an Opt to tour the lovely and unusual Great Mosque (a wonderfully serene place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city), great souvenir stalls, and enjoy some of the best street food in China. The remaining city walls are a great place to watch the sunset or join the locals for ballroom dancing or tai chi in the early morning. Opt to take a day trip to the Terracotta Warriors, situated a short drive out of town (approximately 1 hr). Included Activities: Muslim Quarter Orientation Walk
Day 5 Xi'an/Suzhou Enjoy free time to explore Xi'an, then take an overnight train to Suzhou. Transport: Basic overnight train (beds) (14.00-16.00 hours)
Day 6 Suzhou Visit Suzhou, the "Venice of the East." Opt to explore the Master of the Nets Garden, one of China's most exquisite gardens. In the evening, let loose like the locals with a karaoke session in a private room for the group; this is sure to be a memorable night! Included Activities: Private Karaoke Session
Day 7 Suzhou/Shanghai Shanghai is the most modern of Chinese cities. Go shopping on the famous Nanjing Road or stroll along the Bund district with its many riverside historical buildings. Included Activities: Orientation Walk of the Bund Transport: Bullet train (2.00 hour(s))
Day 8 Shanghai Today, new travellers may join you for the rest of your adventure. You are welcome to join them at a group meeting this evening, followed by an optional dinner.
Day 9 Shanghai After some free time, board an overnight train to Guilin. Transport: Basic overnight train (beds) (19.50 hour(s))
Day 10 Guilin/Yangshuo Arrive in Guilin by train and transfer to the nearby village of Yangshuo, nestled among the limestone karsts jutting out of the Li River. One of the most scenic regions of China, this beautiful backpacker town is a haven for activities, cultural immersion, and relaxing at cafés. The Li River and the limestone karst mountains interspersed with picturesque riverside villages and markets make this area perhaps the best known scenic attraction in the region. Transport: Private Vehicle (1.50-2.00 hours)
Day 11 Yangshuo Explore Yangshuo with a free day. Opt for a tai chi lesson, a cooking class, or try your hand at calligraphy.
Day 12 Yangshuo Explore Yangshuo with a free day. Opt for a tai chi lesson, a cooking class, or a calligraphy lesson.
Day 13 Yangshuo/Hong Kong Travel to bustling Hong Kong via Guilin. Included Activities: Border Crossing (China - Hong Kong) Transport: Private Vehicle (1.50-2.00 hours) Local train (3.50 hour(s)) Metro (1.50 hour(s))
Day 14 Hong Kong Depart at any time. Included Activities: Departure Day
