It’s almost inevitable that you’ll need to refuel when exploring Pingjiang Lu, so be sure to stop by this funky, hidden coffeeshop, serving great drinks and a cafe menu from a lane house west of the famous pedestrianised street. Keep your eyes peeled for the black-and-white sign facing Pingjiang Lu.
EnergyCoffee serves good-quality, well-made coffee. The interior, though tiny, is full of expensive-looking coffee brewing equipment and the owner, who speaks reasonable English, is knowledgeable and passionate about coffee. Choose from standards such as Americano and flat white or opt for one of their cold brews, perfect on a hot Sūzhōu summer’s day. Other drinks include tea, hot chocolate, and, for those who can’t choose between tea and coffee, a green tea latte. As well as offering simple breakfasts until 10.30am, they also have a small collection of cakes and pastries available all day.
