Your friendly private guide comes to pick you up at your hotel lobby in the morning. Spend 1-hour driving time to a beautiful water village at your preference (Zhujiajiao, Zhouzhuang, Xitang, Tongli , Wuzheng, Luzhi, Nanxun or Mudu). Suzhou & Luzhi Water town 1 Day Tour

After picking you up by car at your centrally located hotel in Shanghai, you will drive to Suzhou where you will visit the  private Garden of the Master of Nets, a masterpiece of Suzhou landscaping art with nearly 1000 years of history. It was built during Song dynasty and has been part of UNESCO cultural world heritage since 1997.  After a cup of coffee and taking a moment to breath in the magnificient atmosphere of this garden, you will proceed to Suzhou's best preserved part of its ancient city wall, including the a gate for water and land transport (climbing the city wall at own expense). On our next stop you will explore the reason for most of Suzhou's wealth, the silk. At one of the last silk factories in town established in 1926, you learn everything about this stunning material and it's production. Explore how the silk worms are grown, watch myriads of silk worms feasting on mulberry leaves (only from April to June and September to October), see how the silk is extracted from the cocoon, spun and later knitted into a final product. Afterwards you get to try some of Suzhou's culinary specialty dim sum like rose cake and so-called eyebrow cookies. A 30 min drive later you arrive in the ancient water town of Luzhi, an outstanding example of the use of canals as main roads of transportation. Here you explore the colorful Baosheng Monastery, a local religious center for centuries which hosts one of the last clay stuccos in China, as well as the myriad bridges and backlanes representative of the Southern Chinese water towns. After an exciting day full of culture, history and local delights, your private van will drive you back to your Shanghai hotel.

Two Days Suzhou Private Sightseeing Tour wtih Tongli Water Town

Day 1 Pick up service is arranged at your hotel in Suzhou or Suzhou train station. Your first destination is Lingering Garden, it is the world UNESCO site. Landscape architectural space processing is very exquisite, using a variety of artistic techniques, built a unique space system, becoming one of the world civilization examples of architectural space art processing. Canglang Pavilion, is one of the Classical Gardens of Suzhou that are jointly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the oldest among the existing classical gardens in Suzhou and it's also one of the four most famous gardens in the city. Panmen Gate, also known as Pan Gate. It is a famous historical landmark in Suzhou. The architecture of the wall is truly amazing. It is also known in China for its architecture complex of both land and water city gates. Therefore it is also often called the "Land and Water Gate". Shantang Street. Owing to its distinguished geographic location and convenient water and land transportation, Shantang Street was one of the streets which trade and culture were most highly developed in Ming and Qing dynasties, regarded as "the No.1 Ancient Street in China". Suzhou No. 1 Silk Mill. Suzhou has a long and rich history of silk culture, including mulberry tree and silk worm cultivation and turning raw silk into beautiful fabric. The Suzhou No. 1 Silk Mill has been a proud steward of this heritage for over 80 years. It's more like a museum which shows you how the silk is made from cocoons from the beginning and the whole silk process. Not to be missed. Drive you back to your hotel. Day 2 After breakfast, drive you to Tongli water town (1 hour). Tongli water town is one of the six famous ancient water towns in the south of the Yangtze River Delta, which are famous for their rivers, ancient bridges and house complexes. Tongli Water Town was established in the Song Dynasty, has a history of over 1,000 years. It is very rich in cultural heritage. Traditional residences including gardens, houses and temples, built in the Ming & Qing Dynasty, are the highlight of the city. Jiayin Hall is known for its fine carvings on the structure. Congben Hall is also known for its carvings on the structure. There are more than one hundred of well-preserved woodcarvings of traditional figures from Chinese classics. Tongli together with Zhouzhuang and Luzhi were listed in the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage Sites. With the rapid modernization of China, large number of historical towns disappeared under the bulldozers, with only a handful of well-preserved historical townships remaining today. Then free on your own for a while until our guide drive you back to Suzhou and you will be taken back to your hotel or Suzhou train station.
