There are plenty of bars in larger cities. Visit Western-style pubs to connect with travellers and homesick expats. Běijīng and Shànghǎi have the most club options, with homegrown electronic music on the rise.

Alcohol in China

China drinks more than any other Asian country (or even Britain). Most drinking is done at meals and is an important part of many business deals.

Beer and the face-numbingly strong báijiǔ (a white spirit) are the most common tipples. Whiskey, red wine and cocktails are status symbols; microbreweries are on the rise.
