Just like Chinese dishes have been adapted to Western palates overseas, here the tables are turned. Throwback fare such as baked escargots, 'Swiss' chicken wings and Russian borscht are served in neat, if slightly worn, surrounds by waiters who've been here for decades.

'Soy-sauce Western' cuisine, as it is known, is believed to have been invented by the original Tai Ping Koon in Guǎngzhōu. There are several branches around town.
