Tai Po, a new town in the New Territories with a rich history. Discover how this town developed from a small market town, then an important colonial political centre, and finally into the bustling new town it is now. This is a 2.5-3 hour walking tour, starting at Tai Po Market MTR station.
Departure from Tai Po Market MTR station, meet up at the 7-11 in between exit A (turn left after passing the turn styles) and exit B (turn right). Major sites visited (in tour order, not historical chronological order): - the historical former Tai Po Police Station, the first such station built in the New Territories and instrumental in cementing colonial control over the area. - Plover Cove Estate: resettlement estate and the start of the development of Tai Po as a new town. - Tai Po Old Market and the Tin Hau Temple: here is where it all began, back in the 17th century. - Fu Shin Street: the second stage in the development of Tai Po as a market town. - Tai Po Railway Museum - the former Tai Po Market KCR station, giving a boost to the market development. - Tai Po Hui Market (a new, traditional wet market) and Tai Ming Lane Square: modern day Tai Po. The tour finishes at Tai Po Market MTR station.
