Introduction

Most travellers who reach Èrlián (二连; in Mongolian Ereen or Erenhot) are travelling overland between China and Mongolia on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. A small city (by Chinese standards) just over the border from Zamyn-Üüd, Èrlián has a dusty outpost feel. Apart from being the main China-Mongolia land crossing for rail travellers, Èrlián is also known as a 'dinosaur town' thanks to the discovery of several dinosaurs in the surrounding areas.
