Cocktail Bar in Drum Tower & Dōngchéng North

Buried deep inside the Dongcheng hútòng is this temple to tasting báijiǔ, China's national spirit that's older that Buddhism with a kick like a Bactrian camel. Tasting flights consist of a procession of tiny shots of báijiǔ accompanied by an explanation (in English) of what you're drinking. If drinking it straight-up sounds too much, they also mix báijiǔ cocktails, as well as classics like martinis and sidecars.

The cosy, wood-beamed interior is accessed through a discreet hútòng gate marked by a red lantern.
