Discover Dashilan, the commercial center of old Beijing, on this 7-hour walking tour with private guide. As you stroll atmospheric renovated 'hutong' alleys and pedestrianized Qianmen Street, you'll visit traditional stores selling silk, hand-crafted shoes, and traditional Chinese medicine, and see China's first ever movie theater. Your tour includes lunch and a foot spa treatment.
Your guide will greet you at your downtown Beijing hotel at 9am, and accompany you on the subway to Qianmen Gate, once the southern entrance of the Imperial City. Here, your guide will introduce you to the area: pedestrianised Qianmen Street and the Dashilan hutong area. Once the commercial center of Beijing, this beautifully renovated district is home to many of China's 'time-honored' brands – some founded during the nineteenth century or even earlier. As you stroll along Qianmen Street, stopping at classic Beijing shops, your guide will paint a picture of how the area looked during its heyday. You'll visit China's first movie theater, a traditional pickles store, an antique hand-crafted shoe store, and the famous Ruifuxiang silk store. Learn about the ancient theories of traditional Chinese medicine at the Tongrentang pharmacy, and enjoy a steamed bun lunch. After all that shopping, your feet will be keen for a break: your tour includes a foot spa treatment at the Qinghua foot-care center. Finally, your guide will escort you to the subway station, where you can make your own way back to your hotel.
