Tour description

Explore the history-rich city of Xian and discover why it attracted people of all walks of the world, from emperors and warriors, to poets and monks. Through this tour you'll marvel at the ancient city wall, walk through the Muslim Quarters and gaze at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

Our English-speaking guide will meet you at your hotel lobby in Xian’s city centre between 7am and 8:30am, depending on other customers’ hotel pickup times. You will be informed of the exact time by your guide the day before your tour, normally after 6pm in a phone call to your hotel.

After pickup, you will first visit Xian Museum, where you can learn about Xian’s history and culture. From here, you will move on to nearby North Square to see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda that symbolizes old-time Xian. The pagoda was built during the Tang Dynasty to house sutras and figurines of the Buddha brought back to China from India by the Buddhist traveler Xuanzang. The building is surrounded by a garden-style square designed as a retreat for visitors.

After a traditional Chinese lunch, continue on to visit Xian’s ancient City Wall, the best-preserved and largest city wall in China. Built to provide military defense in ancient times, the rectangular wall measures 8.5 miles (13.7 kilometers) in circumference.

Your next stop is Xian’s Bell Tower and Drum Tower, both built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Located in the center of Xian, the towers connect the four roads from east, south, west and north within the city wall.

The last stop is the Muslim Quarter, a hub of the Muslim community in Xian City. Many special local products and snacks to be found along this street. You can enjoy preserved meat, casserole, various noodles. At the end of the day, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Xian city centre.
