Getting There & Away
Central Europe is well connected to the wider world by air, and competition among low-cost carriers has made short air hops available from Europe and the UK. Taking the train (northwards from Turkey or Greece, for example, or eastwards from England, France or Spain) is a scenic and ecofriendly alternative.
The westernmost countries have the best connections, but from Europe you can get pretty much everywhere by rail with a switch or two. Bus, bicycle and car are other possible modes of transport that can be used to enter the region. Note that flights, tours and rail tickets can be booked online at www.lonelyplanet.com/bookings.
